Prior Pursglove College student, Harry Donnelly, has gained valuable works experience over the summer interning at Mobile Mini, a secure container and site accommodation hire company.

The internship was set up by Career Ready, a UK charity that links employers with schools and colleges, to open up the world of work to young people.

Harry, 17, with no career plans and no confidence, wasn’t expecting big things from his future but thanks to an internship in the marketing team in the world’s leading provider of portable storage solutions, he feels he can achieve anything he sets his mind to.

Harry said of his experience:

“Internships are crucial if you want to become the best version of yourself.

“On my first day I woke up feeling very anxious – I was worrying about every single aspect of the experience. Although this seems completely awful it was later on when I realised that actually I should have felt incredibly excited! Meeting all of the genuinely amazing people there completely changed my attitude. I was treated like an adult and that helped me to act like one.

“When I finish the programme other people my age won’t have a handful of the skills I’ve learned and I feel 100 times more ambitious than before. I’ve completed about a million tasks I thought were impossible.

His top tips to any students who are thinking about signing up to Career Ready are:

“Don’t be afraid about the experience and grab it with both hands. It’s a short-term experience which can have a life-changing result. Try to be excited rather than nervous!”

The Career Ready programme is a combination of master classes, exciting trips, a rewarding internship, an insightful mentor and is guaranteed to help you improve yourself and your skills.
