What is Engineering?
The Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Engineering (Extended Certificate) is an Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) designed for post-16 students with an interest in the Engineering sector and aiming to progress to higher education as a route to graduate level employment. Equivalent to one A level in size, it is suitable for students looking to develop their applied knowledge and skills in Engineering as part of a study programme alongside A levels.

The qualification has been developed in consultation with higher education representatives and professional bodies to ensure students have the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to progress to, and thrive in, higher education.
Is Engineering right for you?
You will have a strong interest in hands on and theoretical engineering and are likely to be considering higher level degree apprenticeships or degrees in engineering after college. The course covers general engineering allowing students to progress to a range of engineering disciplines.

Engineering applications
How advances in modern technology are reshaping engineering sectors, and how engineers use materials and processes to devise sustainable solutions
Engineering design
A design solution to an engineering challenge, developing 3D models and 2D detailed drawings using a computer aided design (CAD) system and other modelling techniques
Engineering project
Applying project management principles to an individual project, developing conceptual or practical solutions to a chosen engineering problem
What happens outside lessons?
The college has good links with Teesside University who offer several events for prospective engineering students, ranging from residential summer schools to online apprenticeship discovery sessions.
