Access to Higher Education Diplomas are aimed at adult learners with non-traditional qualifications who have a career aspiration that requires study at the university level.
Being one of the main routes into university for adults, the Access to Higher Education Diploma provides learners with the necessary preparation for university. Including how to research, write essays, think critically, and deliver a presentation
Why should I study this qualification?
Access to Higher Education Diploma in Policing has a broad basis of study enabling progression on to a diverse range of degree courses. It is mandatory for all learners to research progression routes and entry requirements prior to enrolling in the course.
Course Structure and Content
You will be required to attend a three hour session twice a week. Each graded subject will be delivered in twelve week blocks.

Sociology of Crime and Deviance
Crime in Context
Introduction to Law Enforcement
How will I be assessed?
Knowledge and skills will be assessed by taking part in a range of in-depth activities and compiling a portfolio of evidence. You will be expected to take responsibility for initiating and completing tasks and to undertake self-directed study. You will be assessed in the classroom using a range of methods including written assignments, oral questioning, delivering a presentation and research. Your portfolio must be submitted at the end of the course in order to gain the qualification. You must bring a pen, writing paper and ring binder file to all lessons.
Assignments for graded units are assessed as; Pass Merit or Distinction depending on the overall quality of the work. The number of grades at each level will determine the overall grade for the qualification. This can influence acceptance to some university applications, which varies depending on course content, popularity and the quality of your application.
Candidates are supported with their University applications via UCAS. This involves an audit of learning to date, writing a detailed personal profile and a nominal financial commitment (depending on the number of university level courses applied for). This is done during the first term of the programme.
Potential candidates are required to have dedication and commitment to learning; including self-motivation and time management skills. The demands of the course mean that a commitment to independent learning outside of the classroom is essential.
It is preferable for learners to hold a grade C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent) however individual experience and circumstances are taken into account. You will complete initial assessments in literacy and numeracy to ascertain your current level and determine your suitability for the program.
It is essential that you aim to achieve 100% attendance to attain this qualification.
