Prior Pursglove students are Career Ready

A group of twelve students attended the Mayor’s Chamber in Redcar for a special graduation ceremony from the college’s Career Ready programme. The students have all completed the two year qualification alongside their usual studies at the college and met with the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Dennis Teasdale, to officially graduate.

Career Ready is designed to prepare students on advanced level courses in Business and Finance for life after college with additional experiences to help them with their future career. They undertake field trips, business visits and master classes in employability skills, interviewing techniques and networking plus a paid six week internship with one of our partner organisations which include Redcar and Cleveland Council, Santander, Yorkshire Bank and Barclaycard.

Not only do students develop their theoretical business and finance knowledge, but also gain a real insight into the way businesses operate in the real world.

Paul Grainger, Career Ready Coordinator at Prior Pursglove College said: “The Career Ready programme is invaluable for preparing students for success after leaving college not just by their academic skills but the tangible employability skills they gain.

“This fantastic opportunity for our students could not be achieved without the hard work and dedication of all our business partners who we would like to sincerely thank.”

The graduating students were: Codie Freeman (Outwood Ormesby), Eleanor Armour (ex Laurence Jackson), Jack Dewar (ex Outwood Bydales Academy), Joel Smith (ex Outwood Bydales Academy), Laura Metcalfe (ex Outwood Bydales Academy), Nichol Close-Conyard (ex Acklam Grange School), Oliver Livingstone (ex Rye Hills School), Rachael Johnson (ex Outwood Bydales Academy), Robert Woodrow (ex Rye Hills School), Ruth Barnes (ex Outwood Bydales Academy), Ryan Newton (ex Rye Hills School) & Sam Morten (ex Rye Hills School).

Since 2009 Prior Pursglove has been one of the only colleges in the Tees Valley to be a part of the 16-18 UK Career Ready network, (previously known as Career Academy).
