This seasons sporting superstars
We have had quite the successful sporting season with a great number of fantastic achievements this academic year.
Team Sports
Rugby – Our team has remained unbeaten all season. They have been victorious at 3 under 18’s competitions including beating Tyne Met & Middlesbrough Academies.
Football and Netball – Good solid season, both finishing mid-table
Volleyball – Victorious in the Yorkshire CVL
Pursglove Cup – Record number of students entered to participate in the intra college league. The winning team is now going on to represent the college at the regional indoor 5-aside competition.
Tees Valley College Games – a one off event to encourage participation in different sports – College won the dodgeball and mixed rush hockey competitions.
Regional Championships
19 students represented the college across 8 different sports. 9 students qualified for the national championships. The other 10 students were unlucky not to qualify, finishing 2nd or 3rd in their events.
National College Championships
Tennis – Lois Page, unbeaten in the mixed doubles – playing with a student from QE 6th form. She was triumphant in the women’s singles and only lost 1 game.
Badminton – William Hill, William Davies and Katherine Coates, the event this year was delivered in a Davies Cup Style. The NE region finished 5th overall.
Golf – Thomas Peggs competed in the North East team which finished 4th overall.
X- Country – Jessica Tyreman, Abigail Thompson, Hannah Cauiser and Rebecca Aspin, all competed for the North East team and finished 7th.
Teacher of Sport, Amanda Smith said: “It is great to see that so many of our students are getting involved in a wide range of sports. Well done for having such an amazing year, I can’t wait to see what next year holds.”
