What dates did you study at Prior Pursglove College?:  2008 – 2011

Subjects studied: Government and Politics, Applied IT, Travel & Tourism and Geography

Secondary school: Huntcliff

Memories of Prior: I was a member of both the Student Union and the Events Team, representing students and organising events such as The Haunted Sleepover, Comic Relief and Prior’s 450th Birthday Celebrations

Current Profession:  Property Information Technician in Strategic Assets at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC).

About the journey:  I started at Prior Pursglove in September 2008 and left in May 2011 having completed A-levels in Travel & Tourism, Applied IT and Government & Politics. Whilst I was at the college, I was an active member of both the college’s Student Union and the Events Team.

Having done three years of further education, I decided to apply for an apprenticeship at RCBC instead of pursuing a degree at university. RCBC is a local authority that delivers public services to residents which include bin collections, social services, business engagement and highway maintenance.

I started as an apprentice with RCBC in July 2011 in their Arts and Events team, organising events across the borough such as the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. Since then, I have held other positions in Customer Services and Neighbourhood Services. However, my current position is as the Council’s ‘Property Information Technician’ in our Strategic Assets department, which I have been in since May 2017.

Our department is responsible for the strategic management of the Council’s properties (including land) and negotiating the sale or lease of them when the requirement arises. As part of my role, I carry out surveys of our assets and use the Council’s GIS (Geographic Information System) and CAD (Computer Aided Design) systems to produce site, layout and floor plans. I am also currently involved in marketing and negotiating the leases of several Council properties with local businesses, facilitating their growth and the employment of local people.

I have recently completed a Level 3 ‘Surveying Technician’ course at Hartlepool College of Further Education which means I am now able to apply to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors for my ‘Associate’ membership and am currently in the process of applying for a part-time degree.
